A mum has pulled her own teeth out three times after failing to get a dentist’s appointment.
Layla Waters, 52, contacted every NHS practice within 70 miles of home but could not get a face-to-face appointment in over two years.
After her first infected tooth became loose and the pain unbearable in 2020, she resorted to desperate measures.

She wrapped a piece of kitchen towel around the tooth and yanked it out.
Two months later, she was forced to do the same again with a second infected tooth, eventually completing the unwanted hat-trick on another.
Mum-of-two Layla said: “They kept sending me prescriptions for antibiotics to try to get the infections under control.
“In the end, it was so bad I decided I had to do something.”
Layla, of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, who cannot afford private treatment, added: “I get through a pack of painkillers every two days. I suffer from toothache and all of my teeth are loose now.
“I’ve called 49 dentists. The best response I’ve had is I could be put on the waiting list, but it was 18 months long.”
According to the NHS website, there are currently no NHS dental practices in Peterborough taking on adult patients.
