A savage dog attack inside a house has tragically killed a woman in her 60s.

Merseyside Police have released a statement saying that at around 4.25pm today, Monday, October 3, emergency services were called to a property in Vauxhall, Liverpool.

According to The Echo, police tape has cordoned off a side street of houses, swarmed by forensic investigators between Vauxhall Road and Alderney Road.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: "We understand the shock that this incident will cause in the local community and beyond. Our officers are at the scene carrying out further enquiries so if you have any information please let us know."

The woman's next of kin have been made aware as the scene of the incident is responded to by members from all three main emergency services, including Merseyside Fire and Rescue.

Reacting to the news, a neighbour to the property said: "It's just so awful, you can't imagine how much the family are hurting right now. They'll be devastated."
