William Regals Blackpool dream for blockbuster UK All Elite Wrestling show

William Regal is hopeful AEW will soon head to the UK – with a dream date in his spiritual home of Blackpool high on the wish-list.

All Elite Wrestling is owned by Fulham FC CEO Tony Khan, who has never hidden from the fact he wants to bring his grappling entity to these shores.

While an official announcement has yet to be made, Khan has noted in many interviews that a major AEW show at Craven Cottage is inevitable at some point.

Khan, the passionate driving force behind the company that boasts stars like Bryan Danielson, CM Punk and Chris Jericho, has always been keen to fuse together his love for wrestling and football.

Legendary Brit regal, however, fully admits he has no such love action on the football field – not that this has stopped him from wanting AEW to take over the home of Bloomfield Road, home of Championship side Blackpool.

As a teen Regal wrestled in Blackpool and was billed from there almost his entire career.

In a recent interview with Daily Star, the 54-year-old discussed the prospect of the eventual blockbuster show in the UK for AEW. Unsurprisingly, the seaside town was at the forefront of his mind.

"I'm going to throw this out there that if [we'd do] Craven Cottage then there's not a reason we can't do Bloomfield Road as well,” he said.

"If Rod Stewart can play there, which he did a couple of years ago, then AEW can – they've obviously got the facilities to do that.

"I'm not a football person and I'll hold my hands up to that, but it's the biggest place we could do in Blackpool as there's no arena yet.

"I'd also love the Tower Ballroom, but if you want to get numbers in there then you've got to do Bloomfield Road."

Regal is now a regular on-screen talent in AEW, having joined up with Khan’s enterprise in March following years of working for WWE as a coach, scout, and all-round inspiration for rising stars.

His workload is now seemingly far more carefree – with the former WWE Intercontinental Champion admitting he has absolutely no knowledge of the latest plans to bring AEW here.

He’s far happier being a low maintenance member of the roster, saying: “I have absolutely no idea of the plans.

"I just turn up and do my thing, and it goes by so quickly.

"I am focused on the group I'm with. I get to the building on television days at 11am [but] I know what it's like to have to deal with lots and lots of wrestlers, so I want to be the last person that bothers anyone with anything!

"I want to be the easiest person to deal with, so I am not getting involved in anything – at the moment it's me doing me.

"But hopefully [we'll come to the UK] soon. That would be great, fantastic.”

The stars of AEW and NJPW collide for Forbidden Door, airing on pay-per-view in the early hours of Monday, 27th July in the UK via FITE.
