A real estate tycoon reportedly had a double life as the "bogeyman of porn" and one of the "most abusive" adult directors ever.

Mark Handel was known for his influence in the famed Los Angeles real estate market and was well respected by lawmakers and businesspeople, but it seems he had a dark alter-ego.

Handel had so much power that he was able to influence state legislation to benefit his business interests, the Daily Beast exclusively reported.

But according to the publication and an upcoming documentary, the wealthy man had a second career as one of the porn industry's most notorious players, Khan Tusion.

Lucas Heyne, one of the documentary's directors, said: "They would call him the 'bogeyman of porn,' 'the Freddie Krueger of porn'.

"He was known for being one of the most verbally abusive and physically abusive porn directors that’s ever existed."

Khan Tusion’s films, too, are known for their violent nature and feature scenes of women being abused, including being beaten, stepped on, and choked until they become unconscious.

One film is called Rough Sex and Meat Holes and the women in the films are referred to as "j*zzmops" and “the nastiest wh*res who love to be treated like worthless pieces of meat.”

One actress who worked with Tusion, Taryn Thomas, told filmmakers for the documentary: "Tons of women were abused by this one guy.

Recalling the vile process of filming one of Tusion's movies, Meat Holes 3, she added: "Nobody told me that I was going to go to a porn set and I’m going to be verbally abused, spit on, have somebody’s foot put on my vagina, […] or anything to that extent.

"And I’m going to have to think about the things this d*****bag said to me for the rest of my life. No, I shouldn’t have had to put up with that, and that wasn’t in the contract."

Another performer, known as Regan Starr, said one film was so extreme, its distributor chose to drop it.

"He was kind of telling me in his own way, that there wasn’t going to be a safe word, because even if I used it they weren’t going to stop," she said.

Starr eventually became concerned she had unwittingly signed up for a snuff film, in which one of the parties taking part dies, and became so distraught that filming was stopped.

Tusion denied this version of events after the story became notorious in the adult film world.

The director has managed to maintain his anonymity for years, using a voice distorter in films and refusing to show his face.

When he featured in the 2001 documentary Hardcore, Tusion insisted that the camera remained focused on his chest to protect his “different life” as a “pillar of the community”.

He said at the time that his motivation was not money, but a high that he claimed was “better than drugs.”

However, evidence has long pointed to the theory that Handel is the man behind the fearsome director's identity.

It has reportedly been an open secret in the porn industry that Handel and Tusion are the same person for some time.

Records also show that trademarks for Tusion’s properties belonged to a company called MNP Enterprises LLC. California incorporation, which Handel registered in his own name and used the name and address of his real estate firm, MWH Development, on the filing.

Handel, who in addition to the revelations is also facing federal fraud and money-laundering charges, told the Daily Beast he would only comment through his legal counsel, while his lawyers didn't respond to requests for comment.
