Teenager found behind the wheel with drunk parents in the backseat

A 14-year-old boy was allegedly behind the wheel of his parent's Land Rover Discovery, while they were ‘drunk in the backseat’.

The vehicle failed to stop when officers signalled for it to pull over last weekend (January 29), say police who arrested a teenage boy and both his parents in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Police claimed that the parents had also been in the vehicle at the time and that they were "drunk".

The couple has been charged with a number of offences, including child cruelty offences, according to Belfast Live.

A 59-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman appeared at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday (January 30).

The 14-year-old was arrested but later released on police bail.

According to a post on the Mid Ulster Facebook page, when officers attempted to pull over the Land Rover Discovery, the vehicle attempted to flee before mounting the curb and coming to a stop.

"Last weekend was a busy one for officers across Mid Ulster. Whilst travelling to another incident a Dungannon crew has come across this Land Rover Discovery," the post said.

"After questioning the manner of driving they tried to pull it over. On activating the blue lights the driver failed to stop and tried to make off.

"The vehicle has entered Newell Road before mounting a kerb and stopping. On speaking with the driver, officers discovered a 14-year-old behind the wheel.

"To make matters worse, the child was accompanied by two passengers – his drunk parents.

"The potential consequences of this go without thinking about. A difficult day ahead in court awaits."

The pair's case has been adjourned to a sitting at Dungannon Magistrates Court later this month.

They have been remanded in custody following this week's court appearance.
