A drunk cat owner stabbed her pet and put her in a freezer with ready meals.
Suzanne Bennett, 48, drank three bottles of white wine before knifing her pet up to ten times, the Sun reports.
She dumped her critically ill pet Poppy inside the kitchen appliance alongside her frozen ready meals before calling police herself to confess, a court heard.
Officers who arrived at her home heard the distressed cat meowing from inside the freezer, and found she had sustained stab wounds to her leg and neck on January 19.
She was later treated by a vet and made a miraculous recovery and is now in the care of the RSPCA.
At Wigan magistrates Bennett, of Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, admitted causing unnecessary suffering and was ordered to complete a 18-month community order after JPs were told she had mental health issues.
Bennett told the hearing: "I had three cats for ten years, which were ten, nine and eight.
“I had them since they were eight weeks old. I treated them like they were my children. I looked after them before I looked after myself.
"I do not know how many times I stabbed them, by the way.”

She was also ordered to complete a nine month alcohol treatment requirement, was fined £100 and told to pay £300 in vets’ bills and £95 in costs.

It's not the first grim story of violence against cats that's made headlines in recent weeks.
On Sunday an ex-soldier revealed how he and his girlfriend turned pet detectives to snare a serial cat killer.
Stewart Montgomery, 34, tracked down CCTV showing the chilling moment Steve Bouquet attacked his cat yards from their front door.
It was the vital piece of evidence that ended the former security guard’s reign of terror in which he slaughtered at least nine cats in Brighton, East Sussex.
Bouquet, 54, was last week found guilty of attacking a total of 16 moggies in the resort – only seven of which survived.
His killing spree lasted eight months.
