Prince Philip thinks Prince Harry “abdicated his responsibilities” for a “life of self-centred celebrity” in the US, a bombshell new book has claimed.
The Duke of Edinburgh is the subject of a new biography by royal commentator Ingrid Seward.
Prince Philip Revealed focuses on the duke’s early life and his decades spent with the Royal Family.
One section focuses on Harry and Meghan’s historic decision to leave the royals in January and their subsequent move to the US.
Published in the Mail on Sunday, it reads: “It grieves Philip that many younger members of the Royal Family do not appear to share his values.
“He has struggled greatly, for example, with what he sees as his grandson Harry’s dereliction of duty, giving up his homeland and everything he cared about for a life of self-centred celebrity in North America.
“He has found it hard to understand exactly what it was that made his grandson’s life so unbearable.
“As far as Philip was concerned, Harry and Meghan had everything going for them: a beautiful home, a healthy son, and a unique opportunity to make a global impact with their charity work.
“For a man whose entire existence has been based on a dedication to doing the right thing, it appeared that his grandson had abdicated his responsibilities for the sake of his marriage to an American divorcee in much the same way as Edward VIII gave up his crown to marry Wallis Simpson in 1937.”

Philip has also been “disturbed” by Prince Andrew’s behaviour, the book claims.
The Duke of York, 60, is under pressure to co-operate with US authorities in an investigation into paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplices.
Virginia Giuffre has said she was trafficked by Epstein and alleges that Andrew had sex with her on three separate occasions in 2001 when she was 17.
Andrew’s reputation was left in tatters last year after a disastrous BBC interview on his relationship with Epstein.

His friend Ghislaine Maxwell has since been arrested on a range of child sex charges.
Ms Seward writes: “For Philip and the Queen, their son’s failure of judgment was a tragedy.
“Not only had he besmirched the reputation of the monarchy but had become involved in something extremely distasteful and far more serious.”
The book, published by Simon & Schuster, will be released on October 1.
