Prince Charles and Prince William are working to foil an alleged 'plot' by Prince Andrew to return to the royal fold, according to a new source.

The father and son duo are reportedly determined to ensure the disgraced royal is kept firmly out of life as a working member of The Firm following his high-profile court settlement earlier this year.

Andrew is said to have begun lobbying the 96-year-old Queen to reinstate his position as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards after believing his HRH title should be restored, the Telegraph reports.

He was officially stripped of all his honorary titles in January after he paid £12m to settle a civil sexual assault case in the US.

As well as requesting that he is allowed to make appearances at royal events, he is now alleged to have also asked for daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to be given more duties asroyals.

An insider told the paper: "The colonelcy of the Grenadier Guards was his most coveted title and he wants it back. Having remained a Counsellor of State, he also believes he should be included at royal and state events.

But another source speaking to The Sun at the weekend claimed that Andrew is destined to fail in his quick attempt at royal redemption, saying: A source said: “His comeback fight is probably doomed.

“He is delusional if he thinks Charles or William will ever let him back. The Queen is the only person who ever backs Andrew up.”

The reported drive to keep Andrew frozen out appears to be the latest example of Charles and William, who are first and second-in-line to the throne, taking on more responsibilities as Her Majesty's health concerns grow.

Last week, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said that the shift in power structures in the firm was becoming "increasingly evident" following their front-and-centre roles at the Platinum Jubilee.
