A man was seen pooing on a train station bridge just a few feet away from public toilets.
British Transport Police for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said on Twitter that an investigation has been launched to catch the culprit.
The nasty incident took place at Peterborough railway station which has multiple toilets facilities on three different platforms, on Wednesday morning.
Writing about the investigation on Twitter, BTP Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said: "We are investigating an incident at Peterborough railway station where a male was seen to have a poo on the ramp bridge less than 10 meters away from the toilets.
"Not only is this not nice for those who had no choice but to see it but also for the cleaners having to clean it up."
Unsurprisingly, the tweet provoked plenty disgusted reactions from followers, including neighbouring force BTP Leicestershire who responded with a GIF of My Name Is Earl character Darnell looking horrified.
When asked by a follower to categorise the dump using the Bristol stool chart, BTP Cambridgeshire and Peterborough replied: "No comment" with a crying with laughter emoji.
A former crime scene investigator for North Hants police commented: "Perhaps the offender should know that you can get DNA from poo – obviously it depends on the consistency, but it is possible…."

Another person wrote: "It's as if some people in our civilized society haven't made it from the cave men ages."
Someone who appeared not to be amused in the slightest suggested the authorities take immediate action which most likely oversteps one or two laws of police conduct.
"Find him, wipe his nose it in at then make him clean it up, bloody animal…,' they fumed.
According to the National Rail website, Peterborough railway station has toilets located on Platform 1 and between Platforms 4 and 5, operated by a RADAR key available from the Customer Services Office.
