People on TikTok have reacted with hysteria after discovering the sun could suddenly disappear, sending Earth flying across space.
A video on the app detailed a report by the New Scientist, telling how if the sun was to vanish, here on Earth we wouldn't be plunged into "total darkness" for eight minutes – "the time t takes for its light to reach us".
The report sparked concern that we'd be oblivious to the disappearance for those eight minutes.
And the revelation that the sun's absence could also result in our planet being "flung" across space only added to people's anxiety.
In actual fact, glaring signs that the sun had disappeared would likely include a dramatic fall in temperature, making survival "difficult", although people seemed more concerned with the other elements.
Scottish influencer LittlestChicken shared with his 470 million fans a hilarious rant, saying: "I have just seen a video, right? And somebody had said that if the sun disappears we will not know for eight minutes.
"And then after we know, it doesn't even matter because we'll be f***ing flung across space, right? Flung about until they find thousands of years, that woman said, until they find a new star.
" From now until the day I die, I am forever going to think what the f*** is going to happen if, in four minutes time, we are going to be f***ing flung across space and I'm on because we don't know.
"The sun's gone for eight minutes – eight minutes! We don't know for what this is happening.
"What if it's happening now and by the time I post this TikTok we will have f***ing c**ted it across space This app needs to stop playing with my anxiety."
His fans appeared to share in his concerns as one user said: "Aye, cheers for that anxiety boost before bed."
Another wrote: "So I should live life as if there are only eight minutes of the sun existing left?"
A third said: "SO YOU THOUGHT YOU'D TELL US THIS SO OUR ANXIETY CAN'T HANDLE IT TOO?"
Expert Dharmendra Bhatia, from India, explained the New Scientist report, saying: "However, there would also be a fall in temperature that would more rapidly make survival difficult.

"Since the sun is the centre of gravity in our solar system, its disappearance would result in temporary anarchy among the remaining bodies, and after a few collisions, the system may find a new centre.
"Perhaps Jupiter, or a new giant planet formed after a collision of Jupiter, with other objects that orbited the sun.
"If Earth were lucky enough to avoid getting caught up in these collisions and didn’t just fly off into space, it might start revolving around the new centre."
