Pensioner dies after his friend crushes him with golf buggy in tragic accident

A pensioner died after he was accidentally run over and crushed by a golf buggy his friend was driving.

Roy Collins, 82, became trapped beneath the electric buggy for 15 minutes after it collided with him on June 18, 2019.

Thomas Collins, who was known as Roy, was with long-time friends at Rutland Water Golf Course.

The semi-retired stonemason suffered severe chest injuries which triggered a cardiac arrest.

In turn it caused a fatal brain injury, an inquest has heard.

He sadly died four days later in hospital.

Rutland Water Golf Course is based near Uppingham, a short distance from Peterborough and Leicester.

At the time of the incident, Leicestershire Police said: "We were made aware of a collision between a man and golf buggy at the Rutland Water Golf Course in Rutland on Tuesday June 18.

“The man was taken to hospital after the collision.

“There has been no further police involvement.”
