Newborn baby mauled to death by dog as two arrested for ‘gross negligence’

A 12-day-old baby has been mauled to death by a dog in a suburban road in Doncaster, South Yorkshire.

The tot was rushed to hospital on Sunday afternoon but died a short time later.

Police officers had been called to a property in Welfare Road amid reports a dog had attacked the young boy.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. Both have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson said: "On arrival at the property, emergency services discovered a 12-day-old baby boy had been bitten by a dog and suffered serious injuries.

"The child was taken to hospital, but sadly died a short time later.

"A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter."

The dog has been removed from the address.
