Salvador Ramos, 18, was shot dead at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, US during his horrifying rampage.
Ramos – who had purchased two deadly assault rifles on the day of his 18th birthday – barricaded himself inside the school and died during a shootout with border patrol officers.
Officials said all the victims were in the same fourth-grade classroom, with terrified children in other rooms able to hear the dreadful event as it unfolded.
The Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry's wife, made the unscheduled appearance at a memorial to the victims in the town on Thursday.
The ex-Hollywood actress, whose estranged father suffered a stroke earlier this week, took time to lay flowers at the scene outside Robb Primary School, and wearing a t-shirt and jeans, took a private moment to pay her respects.
Mum-of-two Meghan was seen placing a bouquet of white roses at the memorial.
She and Prince Harry are expected to return to the UK next week to take part in celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Evil Salvador Ramos went on a rampage inside the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, US using a legally bought rifle before he was shot dead.
Speaking to CNN, Texas State Sen. Roland Gutierrez said the monster had purchased two assault rifles on his 18th birthday.
The guns were legally purchased on May 17 and May 20 along with 375 rounds of ammunition that was purchased on May 18.
During his massacre, Ramos used only one rifle, the other he left in the truck he crashed near the school.
Chilling final words of teenage Texas gunman who shot dead 19 kids at primary school
It is believed he had already had a fight with his grandmother that day, and shot her in the face before going on his shooting spree.
Since his death, many ex-friends of the dead murderer have spoken out about his violent nature.
A former co-worker of Ramos at Wendy's said that his aggressive streak was well known.
She said: "He would be very rude towards the girls sometimes, and one of the cooks, threatening them by asking, ‘Do you know who I am?’ And he would also send inappropriate texts to the ladies.
“At the park, there’d be videos of him trying to fight people with boxing gloves. He’d take them around with him.”
