Meghan and Prince Harry looking to ‘copy Barack and Michelle Obama’s success’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are copying the former US president and his wife to build their brand, a royal expert has claimed.

The senior royals took a step back from their duties last year and moved to California.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl has said the Sussexes are looking to the Obamas for inspiration on how to build a successful platform as they find their feet away from Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have known the Obamas for many years, writes the Express.

Meghan, 39, met with former First Lady Michelle during her book tour in London back in 2018.

The then-pregnant Meghan was taken to watch Michelle as she was interviewed by author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Prince Harry, 36, has admired the couple, shown by teaming up with them to promote his Invictus Games for injured and ill army veterans.

Since leaving their roles in the White House, the Obamas have struck deals with Netflix and publisher Penguin Randon House.

Both have written best-selling books, something which royal expert Katie Nicholl believes will inspire Meghan and Harry.

She described the Obamas' post-White House route as "aspirational" and "high end".

She told 9Honey: "The Obamas' Higher Ground production company was always going to be the business model for the Sussexes and that's exactly what we're seeing.

"They are just emulating in each step of what they're doing and that is because the Obamas' model has worked.

"It's high end, it's aspirational, it sits very much with the image that the Sussexes are trying to curate for themselves and it's a successful business model.

"So why wouldn't they look to that for inspiration? I think that's exactly what they've done."

Barack Obama's sixth book, A Promised Land, was released last November.

It hit the New York Times best-seller list the following month, and almost 890,000 copies were sold across US and Canada on the first day.

Meghan ran a lifestyle blog known as The Tig before she met Harry, and speculation that she may write a book has been following since her Suits days.
