Police have launched an investigation after a man and woman were killed in a car crash when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a tree.
Emergency services attended the scene on the A34 Congleton Road, near Marton in Cheshire, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Sadly, both passengers in the grey Mini Cooper were pronounced dead at the scene – with the road currently remaining closed while police carry out their investigation in the area.
The victims have not been named, however it is known that the passengers were a 22-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman who were both from Congleton.
StoneonTrentLive reports that formal identification had not yet taken place and police are calling for witnesses to come forward if they have any information or footage relating to the accident.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "An investigation has been launched after two people died in a collision in Marton, near Congleton.
"At around 3am an officer came across a car that had collided with a tree on Congleton Road.

"Sadly, the two occupants of the grey Mini Cooper were pronounced dead at the scene.
"Formal identification has not yet taken place but they are believed to be a 22-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman both from the Congleton area.
"Their families have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
"An investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision has been launched.
