Locals draw penises around potholes blighting UK street in message to council

Penises have been spray-painted around potholes by fed up locals in Devon.

The crude phallus-shaped drawings have been pictured around two potholes on Ottery Street in Otterton which are located side-by-side.

The images were sent to DevonLive by a witness who explained that they thought the art work was that of a 'fed up' local.

They told the publication: "Spotted this today driving through Otterton near Budleigh Salterton, people must be getting fed up of potholes."

It is not the first time people have expressed themselves with phallus drawings near the area.

Earlier this year, angry residents took to the streets to paint crude images around potholes in order to pay attention to them in white spray paint on a road outside Uckfield College in East Sussex.

Locals in East Sussex lost patience while waiting for the holey highway to be repaired – and the resulting crude phallus drawings attracted interest online.

It also seemingly spurred authorities into action, with a work crew arriving on scene shortly after.

Elsewhere, in January, a mysterious vandal raised attention to potholes in their area.

They used several rude drawings to highlight the potholes littering a market town in Gloucestershire.

At the time, a local district councillor said he didn't condone the graffiti but admitted it does highlight the need for the county council to fix the road.

Cllr Layfield, of the Community Independents, said: "This demonstrates just how bad the road conditions have become.

"Regular adverse weather events and the increasing size and weight of vehicles are causing our roads to literally crumble away.

"Whilst I can't condone people taking action of this nature – putting themselves at risk by standing in the middle of the road and painting symbols that may be more unsettling than humorous for members of our community, it does highlight how urgent the need for action from the county council and highways is."

It's not currently known who is responsible for the penis-shaped potholes in Otterton or when they appeared.
