A young boy has bravely defended his family with his toy car when four armed intruders took his mum hostage in their own home.
The shocking incident took place at a South Bend home in Indiana, US, on September 30, officials said.
It is reported that the four suspects, three of who were armed with handguns, knocked on the front door and forced their way into the property.
Disturbing video captured on a home security camera shows the intruders holding their weapons while searching around the property.
Mum Tamika Reid is seen ironing the clothes in the living room while her five-year-old son David Johnson is watching television.
A gunman in a red jacket holds Tamika at gunpoint and forces her to move to another room.
As they walk, little David picks up his toy and hurls it at the intruders, trying to defend his parent and home.
According to South Bend police, the suspects fired shots and fled the scene but no one was injured.
Tamika told local media WSBT: "What you were seeing was me ironing our clothes, getting our clothes, ready to start our day.
"If there had been audio on the video, you would hear me saying, 'what is that!'"
She called her son a hero for "trying to hit the guys".
"My thing was I need to get him out of the house before they do something to my son," she added.
David said: "I hit him and I tried to throw my car at him."
The police wrote in the social media post: "This video is extremely disturbing. You can see a little boy hitting one of the armed suspects as he tries to defend his home.
"It is our job now to defend him."
Detectives are still investigating the incident, but don't have any suspects yet.
It's unclear what was the motive behind the home invasion.
