Idaho Springs mayor arrested as suspect in domestic violence case

The mayor of Idaho Springs was arrested Friday as part of a domestic violence investigation.

Officers were called about 3 p.m. to the home of Mayor Michael Hillman on a report of a disturbance, police said in a news release. About the same time, an officer responded to Courtney Riley Cooper Park, where Hillman’s wife gave “information about the disturbance in their home.”

The allegations and offenses “constitute family violence” because of the couple’s marital status, the release said.

Hillman was arrested on suspicion of harassment and criminal mischief, police said, and booked into the Clear Creek County jail.
