Glastonbury tragedy as man dies after medical incident between stages

    A man in his 40s has died at Glastonbury Festival after a "medical incident" between two stages early this morning, according to police.

    The circumstances around his death are unknown although it is not being treated as suspicious, Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement, via the Mirror.

    What is known is that he died in an incident on a footpath known as the old railway line between the Arcadia Stage and the Other Stage at around 4am today.

    Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: "Shortly before 4am today emergency services responded to a medical incident involving a man in his 40s at Glastonbury Festival.

    "The incident happened on a footpath known as the old railway line.

    "Sadly, the man died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

    "The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and officers are carrying out inquiries on behalf of the coroner."

    The man's next of kin have been informed of his tragic passing.

    The five day festival held in Somerset is one of the highlights of the music calendar and sees over 200,000 people descend on the area.

    Deaths are uncommon but in 2019, a 60-year-old security guard was found dead in his tent whilst working at the festival.

    Avon and Somerset Police reported 107 crimes or crime-related incidents and made 33 arrests at the festival so far.

    There have been 24 thefts, 19 drug offences and 17 instances of violence against a person, as well as five sexual assaults, three offences for the possession of an offensive weapon in and around the festival grounds.

    The force also reported one public order offence, one fraud and one burglary.
