Brian Laundrie, 23, disappeared in early September after returning to Florida from a road trip with his partner and social media influencer, Gabby Petito, 22. Investigators used dental records to confirm the finding of Laundrie’s body at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park.
The FBI issued a statement on Thursday which said: “On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T Mabry Carlton Jr Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie.”
The announcement came just one day after the body was found.
A lawyer representing Laundrie’s parents also issued a statement which read: “Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been informed that the remains found yesterday in the reserve are indeed Brian’s.
“We have no further comment at this time and we ask that you respect the Laundries’ privacy at this time.”

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno praised the work of officials for searching under the park’s “treacherous conditions”.
“It’s not like you’re searching a house or a car,” he said.
“These areas are huge and they are covered by water.”
The BBC reports the 168-acre park has chest-deep water filled with poisonous rattlesnakes and dangerous alligators.

Ms Petito, who was last seen on August 27, was discovered at a national park in Wyoming on September 19.
A post-mortem concluded she had died through strangulation.
Following Laundrie’s return to Florida on September 1, he refused to cooperate with the authorities’ investigation into Ms Petito’s disappearance.
According to Laundrie’s parents, the 23-year-old was last seen on September 13 but failed to return home after saying he was going on a hike.
