US President Donald Trump has given the TikTok deal his "blessing" and says the app will be “totally secure”.
Trump was speaking to reporters before departing for a North Carolina rally.
He said "it will have nothing to do with China, it'll be totally secure, that's part of the deal”, according to Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Jacobs.
Tech giant Oracle Corporation has been selected by the Chinese-owned social media platform as its “trusted tech partner” in the US.
The move appeared to appease Trump who has approved the firm's bid “in concept.”
He had been typically outspoken over his fears about the video-sharing app and even blasted it as a national security threat.
But in an apparent U-turn, the billionaire said: “I have given the deal my blessing. I approved the deal in concept.”
Chinese government officials must now sign off the deal for it to go ahead.
It would mean forming a new company called TikTok Global, according to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.
Trump previously said he did not trust the social platform's Chinese owner ByteDance Ltd.
But the new company will have its headquarters in Texas and will create around 25,000 new jobs.
It came at the eleventh hour as the US Commerce Department issued an order on Friday to bar people in the country from downloading TikTok and the Chinese-owned messaging app WeChat.
