Prince Charles took a shine to Meghan Markle who saw him as a "second father", it has been claimed.

New book Finding Freedom, which hit shelves on Tuesday, also claims Charles described the Duchess as "sassy and confident".

Charles walked Meghan down the aisle for her wedding with Prince Harry in 2018.

It followed the break down of Meghan's relationship with her dad Thomas Markle.

And a source has told Finding Freedom's authors, Omid Scoobie and Carolyn Durand, that Meghan felt she had "such a supportive and loving father in Charles which has really changed her life for the better".

Charles was also said to have taken to Meghan's "confidence". Meghan is also said to have described Charles as a "second father".

It is further claimed in the book that Charles has shown more understanding than other members of the royal family after the couple stepped down as senior royals at the start of the year.

They left the UK for Los Angeles, via Canada, where they now live with baby Archie.

Tom Markle Jnr, Meghan's half-brother, had claimed the book's exit has hurt Thomas.

He told MirrorOnline : “He doesn’t trust her and doesn’t want to know that person because of the lies, manipulation and deceit.

"He just had his 76th birthday – needless to say, he didn’t hear from Meghan. As far as a reunion goes, he’s given up on Meghan and Harry completely.

“Dad wants to die a happy man. He’s had enough BS. He’s better off enjoying his retirement and travelling – and forget Meghan altogether.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex insist they were not interviewed for the book.

But its authors claim it was written in co-operation with people close to the couple.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess said: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not interviewed and did not contribute to Finding Freedom.

"This book is based on the authors' own experiences as members of the royal press corps and their own independent reporting."
