Butlins resort evacuated as army bomb squad called in for suspicious device

A Butlin's resort was evacuated today after a package containing a "suspicious device" was found in the car park.

Holidaymakers were asked to vacate the holiday park in Bongor Regis at 7.15am to allow the police and army bomb squad to investigate.

A "small controlled explosion" reportedly took place at around 10.20am.

Road blocks are also in place as a precaution.

A police spokesman said: “Police have responded to a report of a suspicious device found in the car park of Butlins, Bognor Regis, at about 7.15am on Tuesday October 5.

"Officers are at the scene assisting an evacuation of guests at the hotel as a precautionary measure and a cordon has been put in place.

"Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit are also at the scene investigating the device."

Butlin's have been contacted by the Daily Star for a comment.
