Brits need to start preparing themselves for another heatwave over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Met Office has warned.

The UK has been battered by recording breaking 40C heat in recent weeks, with two heatwaves hitting the country in the last six weeks.

And now a third is on its way – but this time it'll mainly hit the south of the country.

Temperatures are set to top 30c in parts of the country for the Bank Holiday weekend from August 26 to 29.

Although no weather warnings have been given, the current long range weather forecast states: “The very start of this period will see most areas experiencing rather cloudy conditions and perhaps some rain or drizzle spreading from the south west.

“The east and south east are more likely to be drier on Tuesday, with stronger winds and showers in the north and north west.

“From then, there looks to be a change to more settled conditions with the best of any sunshine in the south east.

“A north west/south east temperature split may also develop, whereby cooler polar air will characterise the north, with the south experiencing warmer air from the continent.

“By the end of this period, fine, dry weather is likely to prevail for many.

“Light winds are likely with plenty of sunshine, and temperatures generally warm or locally very warm.”

Droughts have been declared in several areas in the UK as last month saw the driest July on record since 1976, as some experts have warned that the UK would require several weeks of rainfall to get over the worst effects of the drought that has resulted in a nationwide water shortage.

Due to the ground being too dry to absorb masses amounts of rain, the Met Office warned that this could lead to flash flooding during the current downpours, but the new forecasts states that this will be ending within the next few days.
