BBC Weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood warned Britons of heavy rain and thunderstorms throughout Tuesday. She said it will be a heavy wet day for many across parts of England and Scotland. She noted there will be brief patches of sunshine to areas less impacted by the rain but they still should expect showers.
Ms Kirkwood said: “We have had biblical rain here this morning
“The forecast for today, when the rain moves northwards, is one of showers.
“A little bit of sunshine and it is also going to be pretty breezy across the south.
“What is driving our rain is low pressure, it has been coming from the southwest overnight and some of us have seen torrential downpours and it is going to be ticking north into parts of England and eastern Scotland as well.”

Ms Kirkwood noted that west of this wall of rain there will be some sunshine through Tuesday.
However, she did admit that many areas would struggle to avoid showers at some point during the day.
She continued: “Some of those showers will be heavy and also thundery.
“It is also pretty gusty, we are looking at quite gusty conditions across the south-east and east Anglia.

“Temperatures today are ranging from 15 degrees in the north to about 20, 21 in the south.
“If you are heading to Wimbledon today, after this morning’s rain we are looking at some drier and brighter conditions but there will be some showers around.
“It will be breezy so at least some of the showers will past by quite quickly.”

Ms Kirkwood closed by explaining the weather forecast for Tuesday night.
She said: “Through this evening and overnight, our low pressure drifts up to Scotland, still a bit of cloud and rain.
“But the showers will be easing off, the breeze will be easing and temperatures will be in double figures.
“Wednesday, for most of us will be a bright day with some showers.”
