Ambulance rushing to hospital crashes into bus stop killing woman in her 40s

A woman has reportedly died in a crash involving an ambulance in Salfords on Thursday (August 5).

The 40-year-old pedestrian, who is thought to have been waiting for a bus, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene in Brighton Road following the collision which happened at around

Photos emerging from the scene show what appears to be a South East Coast Ambulance Service ambulance collided with a bus stop.

A Salfords business owner told Surrey Live that the ambulance was in a "right state".

They added: "On the front passenger side the tyre is completely flat.

"At the front of the ambulance there is a bit of the bus stop metal going through the roof. The front is completely smashed.

"The atmosphere is horrible out there, it's all quiet and eerie, it's not nice.

"There are all sorts of people up this parade, from all different countries, and we are all just feeling the same feelings. We are all gutted."

A significant amount of debris was littered across the road and spread in front of the small parade of shops that witnessed the scary crash.

Another business owner who witnessed the incident said they would not be opening their shop as they were upset at what they'd seen.

They told SurreyLive: "I was upstairs and looked outside and saw what had happened. We are living upstairs so I heard it. I heard quite a big noise, it sounded very big, fast and loud.

"There were a lot of police and ambulances here, they came really quickly actually. I'm not really feeling confident today so I'm not going to work today – it's all a bit of a shock. It's something you don't want to see. Hopefully it will never happen again."

The road was initially blocked in both directions when the collision happened but as of 12pm only the northbound route is shut.

A SECAmb spokesperson said: "Following a road traffic collision involving a trust ambulance and a pedestrian on Brighton Road, Salfords, at 9.20am today, we can confirm that sadly the pedestrian died at the scene.

"We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family involved at this difficult time.

"The circumstances of the collision are being investigated by Surrey Police and we are therefore unable to comment further."
