A 17-year-old high school senior was accidentally shot dead by friends 'during target practice' in their backyard.
Candace Chrzan was shot and killed on March 30 at about 8pm while with friends in the backyard of a home in Mount Zion, said Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
The Mount Zion High School student was believed to have been doing target practice when she was accidentally shot dead by one of the teenagers.
A spokesperson for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Ashley Husley said: "'It was just a couple of friends out in the back yard, from what we have been told, possibly during target practice with a pistol.
"The kids probably haven't been taught the gun safety rules they should have been taught. And ultimately it resulted in Candace's death."
Investigators said they are still looking into the death but did not disclose who fired the fatal shot or who owned the gun.
Hulsey claimed that the 17-year-old had just recently picked up her cap and gown and was looking forward to her high school graduation and the festivities that every student gets to enjoy.
Since the news broke, tributes have poured in for the beloved high school senior who has been described as 'amazing and unforgettable'.
Her grandmother, Autumn Parker wrote on Facebook: "So many words I can say about Candace, so many memories pop up, so many laughs and smiles and giggles.
"I’ve struggled with words all day. My heart is just in pieces over this sweet girl.
