Sue Gray, the former top civil servant who led the Partygate inquiry into Boris Johnson, went into talks to work with Sir Keir Starmer last October months before she officially quit.
The ex-Cabinet Office fixer has now been cleared in a report to work for Starmer as early as September.
It means that despite her intimate knowledge of the government’s plans and timetable she will only have had to wait six months since dramatically stepping down.
