Nurseries closure: Williamson confirms ‘no plan’ to keep toddlers home during new lockdown

Gavin Williamson fails to rule out prosecution for parents

The Education Secretary told the Education Select Committee that nurseries will be allowed to remain open despite schools staying closed. Mr Williamson added there has been no advice stating that the coronavirus is spreading throughout nurseries.

The Conservative MP was asked: “Are you going to keep nurseries open, guaranteed?”

He replied: “The advice that we have had is that we can keep early year settings open.

“There is no intention to close them.

“We have not received any advice that is opposed to that.”
