Jeremy Hunt to make emergency statement today in desperate bid

The new Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is set to deliver a medium-term fiscal plan today, according to the Treasury. In a statement it explained the plans had been fast tracked although they would be released in full at the end of this month.

This comes following conversations with Prime Minister Liz Truss over the weekend and a meeting on Sunday night with the head of the Debt Management Office and the governor of the Bank of England.

Ms Truss is facing calls to resign after a number of Tory MPs expressed doubts over her leadership.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has accused her of being “in office but not in power”.

The Daily Mail reported that MPs will try to oust Ms Truss later this week, with over 100 allegedly ready to submit letters of no confidence.
